Monmouth came up on the short end of Monday's games in Clermont, Fla., dropping a 12-6 slugfest to Lakeland University in the opener and falling to Concordia Chicago 4-2 in the nightcap.
Lakeland scored 12 times in the first three innings before
Hailey Rennick came from the bullpen to work the final four innings of scoreless ball. The Scots plated a run in the third on
Alison Trettin's solo homer and then added three more in the fourth highlighted by
Jessica Pauley's round ripper. Pauley drove in two more with a double in the fourth to complete all of the Scots' scoring.
The lower half of Concordia's order scored three runs, scratching out two in the bottom of the fourth for all the runs they would need. Monmouth scored in the first inning when
Katie Droste raced home from first on Pauley's double. That would be the Scots' only run until the fifth when Droste's sac fly brought home
Addison Riley.
The Scots face St. Schloastica and Carthage in Tuesday's morning session.
