A slow start cost Monmouth in their season-opener, falling to Augsburg 13-12 Saturday at April Zorn Memorial Stadium.
Â
The Scots spotted the Augies five goals in the first 12 minutes before
Amanda Green broke the ice.
Kara-Jade Gordon then netted back-to-back goals, cutting the margin to 6-3 with 10:46 left in the first half. Gordon and Green finished the half by assisting the other on the Scots' final two scores of the half, drawing Monmouth to within 9-5 at the intermission.
Â
Aspen Chadderdon opened the scoring in the second half, netting the first and last goals of the period. Her final goal came with 1:03 left and closed the gap to 13-12. Six minutes earlier, Gordon had netted her fifth goal of the game to pull Monmouth within 12-11 for their closest margin since the first five minutes of play. Chadderdon got off another shot in the final minute for the would-be tying goal, but an Auggie save ended the threat.
Â
Gordon finished the game with five goals, one more than Green. Chadderdon's two goals and a solo score by
MacKenzie Holmes rounded out Monmouth's scoring.

Monmouth will host Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday at 7 p.m.
