The highest conference finish in program history highlighted the Monmouth College women's water polo weekend, taking third place in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's conference season-ending tournament.
    Â
Trailing by a goal heading into the final quarter of Sunday's third-place game against Carthage, the Scots' defense held the Lady Reds scoreless and got two goals each from
Becca Dabrowski and
Marissa Logan in the period to end the season with a win and third-place finish in the CWPA.
    Â
The Scots had opened tournament play with a 25-10 thrashing of Connecticut College in Friday's first round. Dabrowski pumped in a team-record 11 goals in the contest as Monmouth never trailed after eight different women scored. A 7-1 second quarter run put the Scots comfortably in the lead 11-3 at the half and opened up the margin with an eight-goal third period.
    Â
Seeded third, Monmouth faced top-seeded Macalester in Saturday's semifinals where a 13-11 loss dropped them into Sunday's third-place game. The teams traded the lead four times as Monmouth climbed to a 7-4 lead on Dabrowski's sixth goal with 6:16 left in the first half. Macalester knotted the game with three straight goals and took an 8-7 lead in the third quarter before the Scots countered to tie the contest at 10-10 on a Dabrowski goal with five seconds left in the period. Macalester then outlasted Monmouth in the final frame, taking the lead for good at 12-11 with 3:34 to play.Â
    Â
Dabrowski, the Scots' lone senior on the squad, netted 27 goals in the three games and was named to the All-Tournament first team and MVP.
