Monmouth got steady scoring in their season-opener, but McKendree got more goals to defeat the Scots 22-7 Tuesday night in Monmouth's Pepper Natatorium.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Scots rallied on goals from
Jake Hall and
Tommy Schneider midway through the first half. McKendree slipped in five more first quarter goals to open a lead they would not surrender.

The Scots' defense tightened in the second eight minutes, holding McKendree to just a pair of goals while Schneider netted his second of a team-high three goals. Leading 9-4 entering the second half, McKendree piled on, scoring the first five goals of the final 16 minutes.

Monmouth travels to Salem, Va., next weekend for a four-game set at Salem International.
