SPLIT BURSTS SOFTBALL'S POSTSEASON DREAM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Needing to win out this weekend in order to keep their playoff chances alive, the Scots knocked off St. Norbert 5-2 in Sunday's opener, but fell 8-2 in the nightcap, eliminating the Scots from the Midwest Conference postseason contention.

Liz Hippen fanned eight, scattering five hits and got just enough run support notch the Game 1 win. Traililng 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Hippen's battery mate Madyson Fox, delivered a two-out three-run double to propel the Scots to a 4-2 lead. Kaelan Bradley added an insurance run in the seventh when her two-out triple scored Darcy Kepner who had stroked a one-out double. Hippen took care of the rst, setting the Knights down in order in the bottom of the inning.

St. Norbert touched the Scots for five runs in the second inning, more than enough to earn the split in Game 2. Monmouth managed just four hits in the game - two from Becca Gallis who drove in both Scots' runs. Gallis stroke a run-scoring double in the first and jacked a two-out solo homer in the third.

Monmouth concludes their season Monday at Central needing two wins to give longtime coach John Goddard his 200th career win.
