SOFTBALL TAKES EARLY LEADS, BUT FALLS IN LATE INNINGS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth took the lead on Midwest Conference leading Lake Forest in both ends of Sunday's doubleheader, but came up on the short end in 7-2, 9-3 losses.

The Scots took a 2-0 third-inning lead in the opener when Abby Tucker scored on an error and Darcy Kepner doubled-in Laura Dulee, but that would be all of Monmouth's scoring in the game. The Foresters gained the lead with a four-run fifth,  and added three more in the seventh to ice the game.

Monmouth scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning of Game 2, taking advantage of a pair of errors for a 2-0 lead. After Lake Forest brought a run across in the third, the Scots plated one of their own when Megan Corniels' single scored Becca Gallis. Lake Forest took advantage of a Monmouth error in the fourth and smacked a three-run homer to take a 5-3 lead and then shut the Scots down over the final four innings.

The Scots begin a four-date season-ending road trip at Ripon on Wednesday.
