Box Score 2 On Senior Day, senior ace
Liz Hippen added two wins to her career record total as Monmouth swept Lawrence 11-0, 7-5.
Â
Hippen got plenty of support in Game 1 after the Scots banged out 16 hits and plated 10 runs in the first two innings. The first five batters reached and scored in the bottom of the first to give Hippen all the runs she would need. The Scots piled on in the second, sending 13 batters to the plate, scoring six runs, five with two outs. Leadoff hitter
Laura Dulee posted a 3-for-3 game at the plate as
Gianna Drager,
Kirsti Barton and Hippen drove in two runs each.
Â
Monmouth trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth before the bats reheated.
Kaylee Kurtz came off the bench in the fourth to deliver a two-out, three-run double to give the Scots the lead. The Vikings answered in the fifth, knotting the game at 5-5 on a solo homer. Hippen then came from the bullpen to shut the Vikings down and earned the win when Barton delivered a run-scoring pinch hit and
Alexis Opel scored from second on a Lawrence error.
Â
The Scots wrap up their home season with a 1Â p.m. doubleheader Sunday against Midwest Conference leader Lake Forest.
