Box Score 2 A four-game win streak came to a halt Tuesday when the Scots couldn't find the timely hit in a pair of Midwest Conference losses.
Monmouth managed just three hits in a 3-0 Game 1 loss at Illinois College, but put plenty of runners on in the nightcap. The Scots put runners on in all but the last two innings of the 6-1 late game loss.
The Lady Blues touched starter
Liz Hippen for a single unearned run in the first inning of the opener adn that proved to be all IC would need. IC set the first 11 Scots down before
Becca Gallis singled to left to break up the no-hit bid. Illinois College added another unearned run in the fifth and scored another with two outs in the sixth for the winning margin.
The Scots threatened in the late game, but could muster just one run in the fourth. After Gallis led off the frame with a walk and
Savannah Ball reached on a hit batsman,
Megan Corniels moved both into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.
Kaylee Kurtz' sac fly followed, plating Gallis with Monmouth's only run of the day. IC had taken the lead with a two-out, two-run base hit in the first inning and piled on four runs - all unearned - in the third to earn the sweep.
Monmouth travels to Wisconsin this weekend for MWC games at Ripon and St. Norbert.Â
