Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Monmouth closed their Spring Break trip to Florida with a pair of shutout wins to finish their grueling 6-day, 12-game schedule at 7-5.
Â
Cassidy Abbott tossed the complete-game 1-0 win over Wartburg, scattering five hits and walking no one. The freshman hurler got all the run support she needed in the first inning when
Gianna Drager led off with a double. Drage scampered to third on a passed ball and crossed the plate with the game's only run on freshman
Darcy Kepner's hit into center – one of just three Monmouth hits in the game. The Scots threatened to add more in the opening inning, but a fly out to right with the bases loaded ended the inning. Abbott took charge from there, pitching out of jams in the third and sixth innings to earn her second win of the week.

Senior ace
Liz Hippen matched her younger counterpart's effort in the late game, a 3-0 win over Concordia Chicago. Hippen also scattered five hits, but fanned eight and walked two in the complete game win. Monmouth again scored early when
Madyson Fox picked up a one-out hit in the second and was lifted for pinch runner
Alexis Opel. Opel raced home on a base knock off the bat of
Morgan Pizur-Kranc. The Scots added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth when Pizur-Kranc and
Brittney Enos scored with two outs. Hippen picked up her fourth as Fox and Pizur-Kranc supplied offensive support with two hits each.

The Scots begin their Northern schedule March 18 with a trip to St. Louis where they'll face Fontbonne.
