SCOTS WARM UP FOR LEAGUE OPENER WITH SWEEP OF BLUEJAYS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth banged out 14 hits in Thursday's doubleheader sweep of Westminster, downing the Bluejays 7-2 and 5-3.

The Scots drew five first-inning walks and Kaylee Kurtz stroked a two-run double as Monmouth took a 5-1 Game 1 lead in the first inning. Monmouth plated two more runs in the fifth on pinch-hitter Kaelan Bradley's two-out double to give Liz Hippen her 39th career win, tying for the Scots' all-time win record.

Lauren Sperry's two-run double in the second inning of Game 2 sparked Monmouth's early offense, but they needed a three-run fourth to break a 2-2 tie. Winning pitcher Cassidy Abbott helped her own cause with a one-out base hit and moved to second with a steal. Darcy Kepner then drew a walk to set the stage for the go-ahead runs. With one out, Savannah Ball stroked Monmouth's fifth double of the day, driving home Abbott and Kepner. Gianna Drager's two-out single chased Ball home with the final run.

Monmouth opens Midwest Conference play Friday with a 3 p.m. twinbill at Knox.
