HITS HARD TO FIND IN HOME-OPENING LOSS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth gave 14th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan a run for their money in Game 1, but couldn't avoid the sweep as the Titans handed the Scots 4-0, 15-1 losses for Monmouth's home opener.

Liz Hippen fanned six, but the Titans touched Monmouth's ace for solo runs in the second and third innings for all the runs they would need in the opener. Gianna Drager broke up the Titan's no-hit bid with a leadoff double in the fourth.

The teams traded runs in Game 2. Kaelan Bradley's leadoff homer in the bottom of the first turned out to be the only run the Scots would get in the nightcap as IWU held the Scots to a pair of hits. The Titans broke the game open with a three-run homer in the third and scored eight unearned runs in the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule.

The Scots return to action Monday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Westminster.
