With three games to play, Monmouth is in a logjam for one of four Midwest Conference tournament spots after Sunday's 5-0 win at Lawrence.
Â
Jacie Reis and
Kara-Jade Gordon did all of the Scots' scoring as Reis netted the game's first two goals in the first nine minutes. Lawrence quickly regrouped, holding the Scots scoreless for the remainder of the first half.
Â
Monmouth got on the board quickly after the break when
Hannah Lingle found Gordon for a goal just two minutes into the second half. Reis followed with her third goal three minutes later and Gordon added the final tally two minutes after Reis' score.
Â
The Scots put 18 of their 27 shots on goal and limited the Vikings to just four attempts.
Â
The win gave Monmouth nine playoff points, tying with St. Norbert and Ripon for fifth in the standings, one place out of an MWC berth. The trio is three points back of Cornell, Grinnell and Beloit – all tied for second, three points behind league-leading Knox.
Â
Monmouth plays at Grinnell on Oct. 20 before an Oct. 23 date at Knox. They'll wrap up the regular season Oct. 27 at home with Ripon.
