Monmouth opened their weekend tournament in Pennsylvania with a win and ended with three men scoring double digits as the team erupted for 55 goals in the five games.
The Fighting Scots opened action Saturday at the Washington and Jefferson Tournament with a 14-12 win over the hosts, taking an early 3-0 lead and never looking back.
Jake Hall scored two of his team-high four goals in the first quarter in a preview of Monmouth's offense to come. The Scots were on the opposite end of the scoreboard in the day's second game, falling behind early in a 15-8 loss to Gannon. Penn State-Behrend ended Monmouth's opening day by handing the Scots a 15-6 loss. Five Scots scored in the game, but Monmouth couldn't recover from an early hole.
Sunday's final round saw more offense as the Scots averaged more than 10 goals per game for the weekend. Monmouth and Connecticut College ended the first and second quarters tied before Connecticut opened up a second half lead to pull away 16-13. Led by
Julius Bradsfield who poured in seven goals in the get-away game, seven Scots scored, but Monmouth came up just short a 21-16 loss to LaSalle. Bradfield led the scoring for the weekend, netting 15 goals, one more than Hall and five ahead of
Kurt Holzer.
Monmouth will next travel to Cambridge, Mass., Oct. 14 for the MIT Round Robin.
