Box Score 2 Monmouth had the bats going to post a 4-2 win in the opener of a Sunday twinbill at Beloit, but dropped Game 2, 4-3 when the Bucs scored late.
Highlighted by back-to-back doubles in the first inning of the opener by
Kaylee Kurtz and
Liz Hippen, the Scots scored all the runs Hippen would need in the circle of the 4-2 win. Kurtz's two-bagger plated
Gianna Drager and
Laura Dulee to stake Monmouth to a quick 2-0 lead before Hippen's double brought Kurtz across the plate. Beloit came back with two, fourth inning runs thanks to three straight hits to pull within one at 3-2 before Hippen slammed the door. The Bucs threatened again in the fifth, but Hippen fanned three to get out of the jam and them retired the Bucs in order in teh sixth and seventh to hold on for the win.
Beloit came back from a 3-1 deficit in the late game to earn the split.
Lauren Sperry gave Monmouth a 1-0 lead when her batted ball was misplayed, scoring
Kirsti Barton from third. Barton scored again in the fifth as did Drager on
Justine Bodenhamer's double for a a two-run lead. Teh Bucs inched closer with a solo run in the sixth and won the game on a two-run single with two outs in the seventh.
Monmouth returns home Wednesday, hosting Knox in a 3 p.m. twinbill.
