Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth gained the early upper hand in the Midwest Conference after their league opening showdown with co-favorite Lake Forest, sweeping the Foresters 7-5, 4-2.

Picked by the league coaches as co-favorites to win the conference, the Scots and Foresters traded the opener. Monmouth picked up a pair of first inning runs but Lake Forest responded with three in the bottom of the second. The Scots had a quick answer in the third, as Laura Dulee and Rebecca Gallis led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. An intentional walk to Kaylee Kurtz followed and the Scots took advantage with the next three batters driving in runs. The Foresters scratched out single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to knot the game at 5-5, setting up Monmouth's sixth inning heroics. Dulee delivered her second two-bagger of the game, this time with two outs, to give Monmouth the lead for good. Liz Hippen then retired six of the next eight Foresters to log the win.

The Scots scored all the runs they would need in the nightcap in the fourth when they took advantage of two Lake Forest errors. The miscues opened the door for the Scots to score four unearned runs on just two hits. Brianna Perschall and Zelinda Taylor combined in the circle to surrender just two hits, giving Perschall the win and Taylor her second save.

Monmouth faces Beloit in a Sunday twinbill before returning home to host Knox on Wednesday.
