WOMEN END SEASON WITH RECORD FINISH

The Monmouth College women's water polo team can mark two items off their To-Do list for 2017 after setting the school record for wins and earning their highest finish in program history at the Division III Championships held in St. Paul, Minn.

The Scots entered and exited the weekend in fifth place – both program highs. Their No. 5 seed was their highest seed in the history of the program as the squad dropped an overtime game in the opener, but rebounded with back-to-back wins to capture fifth place.

Facing fourth-seed Connecticut College in the opener, the Scots scored first on a Brittany Lira goal in the opening quarter and led 3-2 at the intermission. The teams traded goals in the second half after the Camels had knotted the score at 4-4 after three quarters. Connecticut College pulled out the win in overtime, downing the Scots 7-6 despite a 14-save effort from Natalie Curtis in goal.

The Scots steamrolled their way to a 9-1 win over Utica in the second round, breaking the program win record in the process with their eighth win of the season. Becca Dabrowski pumped in a game-high five goals as Monmouth overcame a slow start to take a 4-0 halftime lead and pull away in the second half.

Curtis turned in her third straight double-digit save effort in the fifth place game against Grove City and got offensive support as five different Scots scored. Dabrowski netted a team-high four goals while Brenna Bowers and Rachel Unger added two each in the 9-7 win. The Scots jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Grove City tallied three second quarter scores to cut Monmouth's lead to 4-3 at the half. Monmouth increased the margin in the second half to post the win and raise their program-record win total to nine.

In the past two seasons, the Scots have broken the program win total twice. The 2017 unit also set the program high water mark for winning percentage and bettered the previous defensive mark for goals allowed by 100 goals.
