Box Score 2 Monmouth cleared their bench and scored 27 runs in a Wednesday doubleheader sweep of Knox, dousing the Prairie Fire 10-2 and 17-2.

Knox pushed across a pair of first inning runs in the opener for their only lead of the night as Monmouth came roaring back with a four-run second en route to scoring in each of the final five innings. Starting pitcher
Liz Hippen helped herself with a two-run double in the second and added an RBI single in the third before finishing the game with an RBI double in the fifth. Leading 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Scots loaded the bases when
Rebecca Gallis was hit by a pitch after
Carolyn Scherpe opened the inning with a hit and
Laura Dulee stroked a double.
Kaylee Kurtz ended the game via the mercy rule with her second hit of the game to plated Scherpe and Dulee with the game-ending runs.

The Scots batted around in the second inning of the late game, scoring nine runs as Kurtz smashed a two-run homer and Scherpe lined a two-run triple. Monmouth tacked on four more runs in the third and another in the fourth to complete the sweep.

The sweep improved the Scots to 5-1 in Midwest Conference play tying with Illinois College for second place in the league standings. The Scots host the Lady Blues Friday in a 1 p.m. twinbill.
