With at least one more weekend tournament to play, the Monmouth College women's water polo team has tied the program's season win record after a stellar weekend in Pennsylvania.
Playing at Washington and Jefferson last weekend, the Scots posted a 3-2 record, earning their seventh win of the season, tying last year's high water mark. After dropping the opener 10-6 to the host school, the Scots won back-to-back games to close in on the season record.
The Scots fell behind Washington and Jefferson 2-0 in the first quarter, but stayed within striking distance for much of the contest.
Brenna Bowers netted a pair of third period goals as the Scots pulled within 7-5 but the Presidents where able to maintain their margin in the final quarter.
     Led by
Becca Dabrowski's four goals and
Rachel Unger's three, Monmouth opened up a 9-5 lead in a 9-7 win over Penn State-Behrend. The Lions rallied late, but couldn't catch the Scots who got a 12-save effort from
Natalie Curtis.
A 6-0 start on Saturday led to Monmouth's 13-4 win over Utica. Dabrowski scored all five of her goals in the first half as six Scots scored in the game. Monmouth's defense was equally efficient, not surrendering a goal until the final seconds of the first half.
Connecticut College then avenged an earlier loss to the Scots in Saturday's late game. The Camels and Scots were tied four times before Connecticut pulled out a 10-7 win, ending Monmouth's two-game win streak. The Scots had inched ahead 7-6 on
Esther Hubbard's goal early in the fourth quarter, but the Camels responded with four unanswered goals.
Monmouth never trailed in their final game, a 9-6 win over Grove City, to tie the season win record. Unger tallied four goals to lead the Scots to the record-tying win as five Scots found the net.
The Scots will travel to Minnesota the weekend of April 22 for the Division III Championships.
