Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth got home runs – one a grand slam – from a trio of freshmen and rolled to a 4-1 start to their Spring Break trip in Florida Tuesday morning. The Scots opened with a 5-3 win over Wheaton and followed with a 6-2 victory over St. Vincent College.
 
Freshman Laura Dulee came off the bench in the opener to break a 1-1 tie against Wheaton with a two-out grand slam. The blast came an inning after rookie outfielder Lauren Sperry jacked a solo homer to break a scoreless tie. The Thunder rolled back with a solo run in the bottom of the frame prior to Dulee's eventual game winner. Liz Hippen earned the win, fanning nine in the complete game victory while scattering six hits.
 
The Scots got solid performances in the circle in the late game against St. Vincent. Kaylee Kurtz notched her first win of the spring and Zelinda Taylor closed it out for her first career save. Freshman catcher Rebecca Gallis ripped Monmouth's third homer of the day in the first inning to stake Kurtz to a 2-0 lead. The Bearcats answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third before Dulee broke the tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Monmouth added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth as Taylor closed the game out with a two-hit, three strikeout effort.
 
Off to their best start since 2014, Monmouth will face the College of St. Benedict and Alfred University Wednesday morning in Clermont, Fla.
