SCOTS EXPERIENCE POWER SHORTAGE AT DIII TOURNAMENT

Monmouth's men's water polo team return to the home pool later this month after the squad found offense hard to come by the weekend's CWPA Division III Tournament hosted by MIT.

The Scots dropped all three games, falling in their two pool bracket games before dropping a close match in the fifth-place contest. Peter Ollis' team opened against the host school – and No. 1 seeded MIT – Saturday morning and fell behind 6-0 in the first quarter of the 20-1 loss. Kurt Holzer scored Monmouth's lone goal with just over 90 seconds left in the first half.

Julius Bradsfield poured in five goals in the second game of Saturday's pool play, but it wasn't enough to stave off Penn State-Behrend which notched a 16-10 win over the Scots. After a 3-2 PSB lead in the first quarter, the teams traded scores in the second period until the Lions scored three straight goals to end the half, taking a 9-5 lead into intermission.

Washington and Jefferson avenged an earlier loss to the Scots this season with a 16-9 win over Monmouth in Sunday's fifth-place contest. Holzer and Alex Altammirano scored three goals each in the game which was tied 4-4 after the first period. The Presidents then held the Scots scoreless in the second quarter while pumping in four goals to take the lead for good.

Monmouth returns home to host a round robin tournament Oct. 28-29.
