Box Score Monmouth stayed on the winner's side of the bracket with a 2-1 win over Carroll in Friday's first round of the Midwest Conference Softball Championships.

Pitcher Liz Hippen drove in the only runs she woudl need wiwth a two-out, two-run double in the third inning. The sophomore worked out of a first inning jam before retiring the next nine batters.

The Scots got on the board when Elena Sakellaropoulos reached on a fielder's choice and Kirstyn Ozga delivered a two-out hit to set the stage for Hippen's RBIs.

The Scots move into the 4 p.m. game against the winner of the Lake Forest vs. Illinois College matchup. The winner of the 4 p.m. game moves into Saturday's championship cntest while the loser will play an elimination game tomorrow morning.
