Box Score Monmouth advanced to the title game of the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time since 2003 as
Liz Hippen twirled her second no-hitter this season in an 8-0, five inning win over top-seeded Lake Forest.
Â
The Scots – seeded second – jumped on the Foresters for three first inning runs and added another in the second for a quick 4-0 lead. Monmouth banged out five of their eight hits in the fourth, to put four more runs on the board as
Emily Siefken delivered a key, two-out, two-run double. The Scots then retired the side in order in the fifth as Hippen faced just one over the minimum to become Monmouth's all-time no-hit leader and propel Monmouth into the title game with a 2-0 record.
Â
In the day's first game, Hippen drove in the only runs the only runs she needed in a 2-1 win over Carroll. Her two-out, two-run double in the third inning proved to be the difference as the sophomore worked out of a first inning jam before retiring the next nine batters. The Scots got on the board when
Elena Sakellaropoulos reached on a fielder's choice and
Kirstyn Ozga delivered a two-out hit to set the stage for Hippen's RBIs.
