SCOTS CHALLENGE NATIONALLY RANKED TITANS IN HOME TWINBILL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth kept nationally-ranked Illinois Wesleyan at bay for much of Tuesday's doubleheader, but eventually dropped both ends 9-1, 10-0.

Game 1 starting pitcher Kaylee Kurtz helped herself in the first inning. After Charlotte Park reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on Michaela Guthrie's base hit, Kurtz brought Park home with her first of two hits in the game.

Kurtz worked out of jams in each of the first three innings before the Titans broke through with a pair of runs in the fourth. Illinois Wesleyan added three more in the fifth and put the game out of reach with four unearned runs in the seventh.

The Scots fell behind in the opening inning of the nightcap when the Titans parlayed a pair of walks and two hits into two runs. Liz Hippen then shut Illinois Wesleyan down for the next four innings until the Titans banged out six hits in a four-run fifth to take a 6-0 lead and added another four in the sixth.

Monmouth returns to Midwest Conference play this weekend hosting Lawrence on Saturday and St. Norbert Sunday.
