SOFTBALL CLINCHES MWC BERTH WTIH PAIR OF THREE-HITTERS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth got a pair of three-hitters and clinched a Midwest Conference Tournament berth with a 1-0, 7-1 win over Ripon Saturday afternoon.

Liz Hippen fanned 13 in the opener and got all the run support she would need when the Scots pushed a run across in the fourth inning. Elena Sakellaropoulus laced a one-out triple to right field and Emily Watkins delivered a two-out RBI single to give the Scots their 24th win of the season. Hippen surrendered a pair of hits in the bottom of the inning, but fought her way out of a two-on, one-out jam and retired the last 11 batters.

Kaylee Kurtz used her arm and her bat to help herself to her seventh win of the season in the circle, driving in three runs with three hits in the nightcap.  The sophomore knocked in a pair of runs in the Scots' five-run first inning and added another RBI with a two-out triple in the sixth.

The wins improve Monmouth (25-9) to 15-3 in conference play, securing a berth in next weekend's MWC Championships.
