Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Liz Hippen tossed a no-hitter and fanned 10 in the opener and
Kaylee Kurtz followed with a 3-hitter in Monmouth's 11-0, 14-1 sweep of Knox College Saturday afternoon.
Â
Hippen threw the Scots' first no-hitter since 1996 and just the third in program history as Monmouth's offense provided plenty of support, banging out 15 hits in the mercy rule game. The Scots got the only runs Hippen would need in the first inning when
Michaela Guthrie's double drove in Hippen with the first of three runs in the frame. Hippen then helped herself in the Scots' 6-run fourth, picking up a pair of RBIs with a double, one of four doubles in the inning.
Â
Kurtz shook off a solo Knox run in the first inning of Game 2, striking out seven as the offense again supplied plenty of support with 13 hits and another 6-run inning. Tied 1-1 in the second, the Scots banged out five hits before the Prairie Fire could record an out.
Kirstyn Ozga supplied the big blow in the inning, another two-run double as Monmouth pulled out to a 6-1 lead. Monmouth took advantage of a pair of Knox errors in the third inning, collecting three extra base hits highlighted by
Kristen Dillon's two-run homer.
Â
Emily Watkins ended the twinbill with a 4-for-5 day with two RBIs and four runs scored while
Charlotte Park went 5-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
