Box Score 2 Monmouth's bats got going in Game 2 Monday outsdide Orlando, Fla., but the big hit was absent as Monmouth lost a 2-1 squeaker to Bethany College following an early morning 8-0 loss to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

The Scots pounded out seven hits against Bethany, but stranded seven runners in the 2-1 loss. Bethany scored two unearned runs in the first inning and held on to offset a nine-strikeout performance by the Scots'
Liz Hippen. Hippen – who fanned nine – allowed just three hits in the game, two in the pivotal first inning. The Bisons got back-to-back one out hits before a two out error allowed their only two runs to score.

Monmouth answered in their half of the inning when
Charlotte Park's double knocked in
Kirstyn Ozga who had opened the innning with a base hit. The Scots missed a scoring opportunity in the second with runners on second and third with one out, but Bethany escaped the jam with back-to-back outs and held on for the one-run win.

In the opener, Coast Guard scored four runs in the third inning and kept the Scots' bats silent to hang the loss on the Scots. The Bears had taken a 1-0 lead in the secondwith a pair of singles, but then took advantage of two Monmouth errors in the third to pile on four more runs, hanging the loss on
Kaylee Kurtz who worked the first four innings.
