SCOTS MAKE THE MOST OF TWO HITS IN A 2-1 SEASON-OPENING FLORIDA WIN

Box Score Monmouth made the most of two hits in a 2-1 season-opening win over Haverford College in Clermont, Fla.

The Fighting Scots took advantage of three, second inning errors by the Fords to score the game's first run. Starting pitcher Liz Hippen opened the inning for the Scots, reaching on an error. Caitlin Flary then ran for Hippen, stealing second and reaching third on an error. Flary then raced home on the third error of the inning to give the Scots a 1-0 lead.

Monmouth added a needed run insurance run in the fourth when Michaela Guthrie – who collected both of the Scots' hits – led off with a double and was advanced to third on a sac bunt by Hippen. Johnna Schultz then plated Guthrie with the eventual winning run.

The Fords touched Hippen for a solo run in the top of the fifth, parlaying a walk into a run to cut Monmouth's lead to 2-1. After the run, Hippen shut the door, retiring seven of the next eight batters for the win.

Hippen fanned 10 and allowed just three hits in the complete game win.
