Box Score Monmouth experienced both ends of the spectrum in a split at Greenville Thursday afternoon. The Scots banged out 17 hits in an 11-10 Game 1 win, but couldn't muster the runs in a 3-1 Game 2 loss.
Â
Charlotte Park blasted three homeruns in the opener, one round tripper off the NCAA record for homers she tied in 2014. The senior slugged a three-run shot in the first as the Scots jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Greenville promptly knotted the game in the bottom of the inning, slugging their own three-run homer and the slugfest was on.
Â
The Panthers combined three hits with a walk and one error to post a four-run fourth to take a 9-6 lead before the Scots answered.
Â
Morgan Throop opened the top of the fifth with a base hit and scored when
Angela Schaumburg tripled to start a five-run fifth. Three batters later, Park parked her third homer of the game for a two more of her six RBIs and put the Scots up 11-9. The blast gave freshman reliever
Brianna Perschall her first college win.
Â
The Scots put runners on in every inning but the last in the nightcap, but had a hard time traversing the bases.
Kirstyn Ozga's ground out in the second plated
Emily Watkins with the only Scots' score.
Â
Greenville took advantage of a two-out error in the first to take a 1-0 lead and then added a solo homer in the third for the winning run. The loss dampened an 11-strikeout performance in the circle by
Liz Hippen who slipped to 2-2 on the year.
