The Monmouth College men's water polo team wrapped up their season with a win and senior
Raheem Brown ended his career with an all-tournament selection at the Mid-Atlantic Western Division Championships this weekend.
Competing at the seven-team championships at Erie, Pa., the Scots closed out their year with a 13-11 win over LaSalle. The higher-seeded Explorers led 3-2 after the first quarter and expanded their lead to 6-4 by halftime. Sparked by
Jake Hall's team-high five goals and
Kurt Holzer's three tallies, the Scots rallied with a nine-goal second half to pull out the come-from behind win, avenging a season opening one-goal overtime loss to LaSalle.
The Scots had opened play Saturday with a narrow 18-15 loss to second-seeded Salem International. Trailing by two after the opening frame, the Tigers' kept Monmouth out of the net in the second frame and then held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Scots who got a pair of goals each from Brown and
Jared Hankinson in the eight-goal quarter.
Monmouth fell behind early in the middle match against Washington and Jefferson. The Presidents raced out to a 6-2 lead to send the Scots into Sunday's matchup with LaSalle.
Brown finished the season with a school-record 70 goals and was named to the all-tournament second team after scoring team-best 12 goals – seven against Salem – over the three games.
