Julius Bradsfield were named All-Tournament as the Monmouth men's water polo team took fourth place at the just concluded DIII Championships in Bridgeport, Pa.
     Brown earned first team honors after pouring in a team-high 16 goals while Bradsfield spent the weekend in goal to earn second team status. The Scots wrapped up the weekend in fourth place when Washington and Jefferson clipped Monmouth 12-9 in the third place match Sunday morning.
Matt Engebretsen led Monmouth to an early 4-2 lead with three first period goals before the Presidents responded to knot the game at 5-5 at the half. W & J then eased ahead with a 3-2 advantage in the third quarter and kept the Scots at arms' length in the final frame.
     The Scots opened the tournament weekend in pool play with a school-record 25 goals in a 25-7 thrashing of Penn State-Behrend to go 2-0 against teams from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) – a Division I conference. Nursing a 7-3 lead going into the fourth quarter, the Scots erupted for eight goals and followed with 10 in the final period. Freshman
Brendan Atwood poured in a game-high eight tallies, including five in the final frame.
     Monmouth faced ranked MIT in the second game of pool play Saturday, dropping an 18-10 decision to the Engineers. MIT broke the game open with a 6-1 third quarter advantage after leading 8-5 at intermission, sending the Scots into second position in the bracket.
     Battling Connecticut College to determine the finals qualifier, the Scots stormed back with five fourth quarter goals, three by Brown, but came up short in a 10-12 loss. Leading 7-5 entering the third period, the Camels defense held the Scots scoreless in the frame while the offense added four goals for a six-goal cushion.
     The Scots return to action Nov. 5 at the CWPA Championships in Erie, Pa.
