Monmouth scored a program-record eight goals in the final quarter, but couldn't quite pass Salem International in an 18-17 loss in the Scots' pool.
 
The Scots jumped ahead 3-1 in the first quarter on goals by Jake Hall, Alex Altamirano and Raheem Brown before Salem rebounded to take a 5-4 lead after the first period. Monmouth's offense stalled in the middle frames, forcing a late charge.
 
Tied at 16-16 with less than two minutes left in the contest, Salem inched ahead with a pair of scores. Monmouth cut the margin to one on a Riley Hess goal with four seconds left before time ran out.
 
Monmouth will return to action Oct. 15 at Washington and Jefferson.
