Monmouth scored a team-record 19 goals in their water polo season opener at Salem International, but came up on the short end of a 21-19 final.

Raheem Brown pumped in nine goals in the match, but the Scots couldn't overcome a two-goal first quarter deficit. The Scots rallied in the second period, knotting the game at 10-10.

Salem jumped out to a third quarter lead, outscoring the Scots 9-5 in the frame and then held on in the final period.

Monmouth will continue their eastern swing Sunday with a 10 a.m. CT match at Washington and Jefferson.
