IMPROVING DEFENSE LIMITS DUBUQUE IN 2-1 GAME

Box Score Monmouth's defense continued to improve, but it wasn't quite enough to prevent a 2-1 loss to the University of Dubuque Tuesday at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.

The Scots' offense pressured the Spartans early, resulting in the first score of the game when Dubuque put the ball in their own net to give Monmouth a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute.

Dubuque recovered from the early miscue when Katie Lynn found Brianna Burkart for a score in the 14th minute to knot the game at 1-1. The Spartans took the lead just after intermission with a Lynn goal in the 48th minute.

Both teams' defenses took over the rest of the way as Monmouth's Nicole Neagle turned aside eight Spartan shots.
