Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Scots couldn't cash in on a solid pitching performance in Game 1 of Monday's twinbill at Cornell while the Rams' bats heated up in the nightcap of a 1-0, 9-2 sweep of Monmouth.
Liz Hippen tossed five innings of scoreless ball in the opener before two errors in the sixth allowed the only run of the game to score. A throwing error, a pair of walks and a fielding error gave the Rams the only run they would need with two outs in the inning.
Monmouth couldn't recover from a four-run Rams' first inning in the nightcap. Cornell scored four times on five hits, a walk and one error to chase starter
Alyssa Edler and turn the game over to the bullpen.
Morgan Throop got one run back for the Scots in the second with a two-out homer, but the Rams added three more in their half of the inning. Hippen then drove in
Bailey Roberts in the third with her first of two hits in the game, but the Scots couldn't make up the deficit despite two shutout innings from Skyelr Johnson and
Kaylee Kurtz.
