Bats icy against Lady Blues

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth couldn't connect for the timely hit Friday, dropping a Midwest Conference twinbill to Illinois College 5-2, 4-1.

The Lady Blues scored three times with two out in the opener for all the runs they would need. Three hits and two walks set up a two-run single from IC's Emily Hawkins in the first. Monmouth got one run back in the bottom of the inning on Charlotte Park's base hit.

IC added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth, drawing a leadoff walk and then scoring on back-to-back wild pitches to tag the loss on starter Liz Hippen.

Alyssa Edler suffered the Game 2 loss despite pitching seven strong innings. IC opened with a pair of runs in the first after a leadoff triple, a base hit and fielder's choice then gave the Lady Blues the only runs they would need.

Monmouth scored their lone run in the fifth  when Edler opened the frame with a base hit to left center and eventually scored on Johnna Schultz' ground out.

The Scots and Lady Blues are each now 2-2 in league play.
