Box Score 2 Monmouth used two completely different scenarios to sweep Greenville 5-4 and 8-0 on Monday.
The Scots and Panthers went extra innings in the opener before
Kirstyn Ozga's groundout drove in
Carolyn Scherpe with the winning run in the eighth inning. The Panthers had taken a 4-1 lead through the first five innings, but Monmouth rallied in the seventh plating three runs. After Ozga reached base on an error, Hannah Drowns drew a one-out walk and
Charlotte Park then drilled a double to score Ozga. A wild pitch allowed Drowns to score and Cailtin Flary – pinch running for Parks – scored the tying run on a
Morgan Throop base hit.
Skyler Johnson got the win in relief tossing three innings of two-hit ball.
Monmouth jumped on the Panthers early in the nightcap with a three-run first.
Johnna Schultz supplied the big blow, a two-run double and then scored on
Liz Hippen's base hit. The Scots sent eight batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring three more runs. Leading 6-0 in the sixth, Drowns and Park reached with one out to set the stage for Hippen. The freshman banged a double to center driving in a pair of runs to end the game via the mercy rule. Hippen picked up the win, scattering three hits over her six innings of work.
