Box Score Monmouth pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to take a lead, but then surrendered two in the bottom of the inning to drop their opening game of the Midwest Conference Classic to Carroll 3-2.

Tied at 1-1 in the seventh, Morgan Throop picked up a one-out base hit and promptly stole second. Kristen Dillon advanced Throop to third on  a ground out to set up the go-ahead score. Throop then advanced home on a throwing error.

Starter Liz Hippen induced a leadoff ground out to open the bottom of the inning before back-to-back errors put the potential tying and winning runs aboard. Carroll then knocked in the winning tallies with a base hit - only their third of the game - to right.

Hippen worked seven innings, striking out five and scattering three hits without surrendering an earned run on the day.
