Box Score 2 Monmouth opened Midwest Conference play 2-0 after downing Knox in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader 8-0 and 15-7.

Liz Hippen tossed a three-hitter in the opener while
Charlotte Park homered for the fifth time in two years against the Prairie Fire. Park's first inning round tripper put Monmouth up 3-0. They tacked on five more runs in the second thanks to two walks, three hits, an error and hit batsman in the inning. Â Hippen fanned six in picking up her fourth win of the season.

The Scots won the second game in a slugfest as freshman
Hanna Drowns knocked in three runs in the first inning with a bases loaded triple on the way to a six-run first inning.

Trailing 8-1 in the third, Knox batted around with the aid of six hits and three walks, plating seven runs to draw to 8-7 before reliever
Taylor Smith could put out the fire.

Monmouth stormed back in the bottom of the third when
Kirstyn Ozga opened the frame with a  base hit, her first of two hits in the inning, and
Emily Watkins doubled to drive in Ozga. The back-to-back hits started a seven-run inning as the Scots batted around to take a 15-7 lead.

Smith then held the Fire scoreless over the next two innings to end the game via the mercy rule.

Park went 4-for-6 in the twinbill with six RBIs.
