The Monmouth College women's water polo team made sure their home debut was a memorable one. It took three overtimes to decide Friday afternoon's first match of the CWPA West Round Robin Tournament as the Scot fell 10-9 to Utica.
Â
The Scots jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when
Rachel Unger scored her first two of four goals in the game. Utica rallied and scored the last two goals of the first half to draw into a 4-4 tie.
Â
Tied at 8-8 at the end of regulation, neither team could find the back of the next in the first extra session. Abbi Murray gave the Scots a quick 9-8 lead in the second overtime but Utica answered 10 seconds later to force a third overtime. Utica then won in sudden death.
Â
Monmouth dropped a 19-2 decision to sixth-ranked Connecticut College in the evening match. The Scots avoided the shutout when
Natalie Curtis scored in the second period.
Morgan Bruess added another goal in the third quarter to give her three on the day.
