Box Score Monmouth stayed alive in the fight for a Midwest Conference Tournament berth, fighting through a brutal crosswind and on-and-off rain to log a 2-0 win over Illinois College in their home finale Wednesday at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.
The frigid first half produced no goals for either team but the back and forth action warmed things up.
A pair of Scots juniors hooked up in the 54
th minute when
Darice Brooks received a low cross from
Andrea Correa and sent it bouncing off of Illinois College defenders, ultimately slipping past the keeper to put the Scots in the lead 1-0.
Correa got her second assist of the day when Allie DeAvril deposited an insurance goal in the upper 90 in the 68
th minute.
At 4-5-0 Monmouth sits just outside the qualifying top four and will need a win this weekend at Lawrence and a few games to fall in their favor to qualify for the MWC Tournament for the third time in five years.
The Fighting Scots will head up north to Lawrence University Saturday for a 11 a.m. match.
