Lingle's slam not quite enough for Scots to earn split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
Monmouth fought back from a sluggish start, but couldn't quite earn a split with Augustana, falling 8-0 and 9-8 Sunday afternoon.

The Vikings pounded out 12 hits in the opener while the Scots managed just three singles. Back-to-back doubles in the second inning staked Augustana to a 2-0 lead to support the complete game effort of Sarah Hintz. The Vikings added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth to end the game early.

Caitlin Lingle smashed a grand slam for the Scots in the fifth inning of Game 2 as Monmouth rallied with seven runs in the inning to take an 8-6 lead. Augustana answered in the sixth, opening the inning with back-to-back doubles and pushed three runs across to post the win.

Monmouth will open the Midwest Conference Tournament in Lake Forest Friday morning against St. Norbert.
