Softball hits record 8 HRs in Game 2 to complete sweep of Fire

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Charlotte Park hit a school-record four homeruns in Game 2 as Monmouth blasted a record eight round trippers in the contest to win a doubleheader slugfest and move into a tie for second in the Midwest Conference South Division. The Scots outlasted Knox 12-9 in 10 innings in the opener, then outscored the Prairie Fire 13-7 in the nightcap.

Kaitlyn Winkler's three-run homer in the 10th inning of Game 1 propelled Monmouth past the Fire. Monmouth had taken a 9-0 lead with a five-run fourth before the Fire countered with four runs in their half of the inning. Knox tied the game at 9-9 with five runs in the sixth before Taylor Smith came from the bullpen to shut the door. Smith worked the final 4.1 innings to log the win.

Park went 4-for-4 with five RBIs in the nightcap as the Scots blasted eight homeruns, inlcuding three in the seventh inning. Monmouth had taken a quick lead on a game-opening HR by Sommer Foster, but the Fire came back to take a 6-5 lead in the fourth. Park's leadoff homer in the sixth - her third of the game - knotted the game at 6-6 before Foster's basehit plated two. Smith picked up her second win of the day, working 3.1 innings after being summoned again from the bullpen.
