Josh Dunn's Monmouth College women's water polo team upset the seedings at last weekend's Division III Championships in St. Paul, Minn. Seeded eighth, the Scots wrapped up their season by taking seventh at the tournament and having a player named to the All-Tournament team.
After dropping their opening match to No. 1 seed Connecticut College 19-4, the Scots found offense against Grove City College. Cassidy O'Connell went on a scoring spree, posted seven of the Scots' eight goals in the 15-8 loss to conclude Saturday's play.
Sunday's final match put the eight-seeded Scots against seventh-seeded Penn State-Behrend. Monmouth jumped out to a 4-1 halftime lead after O'Connell scored two first quarter goals and Claire McGuire and Heather Barba added single tallies in the first and second quarters, respectively. Third period goals by McGuire and Barba increased the Scots lead to 6-1 to end the third period as the Scots held off a three-goal fourth quarter rally from PSB.
O'Connell was named second team All-Tournament after finishing the three matches with 12 goals.
