Lingle collects record HR, Johnson narrowly misses perfect game as Scots complete Classic 5-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Monmouth wrapped up the Midwest Conference Classic with a perfect 5-0 record as Skyler Johnson flirted with a perfect game in an 8--0 win over Beloit and Cailtin Lingle broke the career home run record in a 5-2 win over Ripon.

Johnson faced one over the minimum in the five inning gem over Beloit. Only two batters reached base as Johnson fanned six in the one-hitter. The Scots opened with a pair of runs in the first inning, but were then kept silent until plating two runs in the fourth. Leading 6-0 in the fifth, Maggie Hayes stroked a two-run homer to help end the game via the mercy rule.

Lingle hit her career-record 18th homerun in the Scots' second game of the day. With the Scots nursing a 4-2 lead into the sixth, Lingle stroked a 2-1 pitch over the fence to break the career record she shared with Jen Witmer and Karen Friedrich.

Monmouth swept all five games at the Classic for the second time in four years.
