Box Score 2 Monmouth's bats went silent on a blustery day at the Monmouth College Softball Stadium as the Fighting Scots dropped both sides of a doubleheader against 18trh-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, 9-0 and 9-1.
In the first half of the twin bill, the Scots managed only two hits on singles from Emily Watkins and Kelsey Barnes.
After spotting the Titans nine runs in the first three innings, Erin Kennelly came in from the bullpen and surrendered just 3 hits and allowed no runs in 2.2 innings.
The Scots managed a bit more offensive output in the nightcap but were unable to overcome the Titans who banged out 23 hits on the day.
Monmouth broke through in the bottom of the fifth when Kristen Dillon led off the inning with a single, was moved over on a wild pitch and later scored on an RBI single from Emily Siefkin.
Sommer Foster had a solid offensive outing, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
The two losses drop the Scots record to 8-5 on the season. They host #22 ranked North Central College for a doubleheader on Saturday and open conference play against Lake Forest on Sunday.
