Monmouth couldn't have gotten a much tougher draw at last weekend's Southern Division Championships, opening against a pair of ranked teams.
The 10th-seeded Scots dropped their opener to Bucknell - ranked No. 3 in the natioin - 16-1. Bucknell jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead and never let up. Freshman
Julius Bradsfield broke the ice for the Scots scoring their lone goal with 2:19 left in the game.
The Scots then faced off against No. 10 Washington and Jefferson for the third time this season. The Presidents used a simlar plan to take a 6-0 lead in the first period and led 10-1 at the half.
Neal Hosper's goal in the third quarter jump-started the Scots' offense but the Scots were unable to make up the deficit.
Monmouth then faced Penn State-Behrend in an elimination game where the Lions took an early lead en route to a 7-3 win over the Scots, their first win in two years against Monmouth. Matt Engebretson's third period goal knotted the game at 3-3 before the Lions pulled away with four fourth quarter goals.Â
