A comeback for the ages netted the Monmouth College men's water polo team their first win in the history of the program.
The team traveled to Pennsylvania and West Virginia for their inaugural games as a varsity program and earned the team's first varsity win. After a morning loss at Washington and Jefferson, the Scots made the drive to Salem International where they notched a come-from-behind win. Trailing late in the game, the Scots put on a 7-1 run, defeating Salem 14-12 in overtime.
"That was an amazing comeback," said coach Josh Dunn. "It was a rough match, but we were able to keep our composure and win in overtime."
The squad had opened their season at Washington and Jefferson Saturday morning, falling 18-10. The Scots fell behind 7-1 in the first quarter and could never catch up despite two goals each from Gabe Baginski, Kyle Bradberry and Tony Marino.
In the final match of the weekend Sunday morning, the Scots fell 22-9 to Notre Dame College to complete the weekend with a 1-2 record.
Monmouth's next action will be the weekend of Oct. 19 when they travel to Baltimore, Md., for the Division III Eastern Championships.
