Goddard ties all-time win record as softball sweeps Knox 12-4, 17-3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Emily Woods ripped her first homerun ever as Monmouth blasted five homeruns in a 12-4, 17-3 sweep of Knox in Midwest Conference play, giving Head Coach John Goddard his 94th career win, tying him with Kathy Waggoner as the all-time winningest coach in Monmouth softball history.

Woods' epic blast start the homerun parade in the second inning of the opener. Sommer Foster followed with a two-run dinger as the Scots rolled out to a 4-1 lead. Monmouth erupted for five runs in the fifth inning to end the game via the mercy rule, giving starter Alyssa Edler her team-leading fifth win of the year.

The Scots kept the pressure on in the nightcap as Emily Watkins hit her team-leading fifth home run in Monmouth’s five-run first. Charlotte Park then parked a two-run shot in the second to put Monmouth ahead 7-1. Caitlin Lingle – who missed the cycle by a triple – ripped a three-run blast in the third inning as Monmouth piled on seven more runs to give starter Skyler Johnson plenty of cushion for the win.

After not hitting a homer in their first seven games of the season, Monmouth has hit nine home runs in their last four games to race to a 3-1 conference record.
