Box Score 2 Monmouth surrendered just three earned runs on the night, but fell to Augustana 2-0 and 6-5 in 10 innings.
Despite beign out-hit 9-3 in the opener, the Scots stayed within striking distance. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, Kaitlyn Winkler and Charlotte Park drew oen out walks to put the go-ahead run on. An out later, the Scots loaded the bases on Kelsey Barnes' first of four hits on the night. Augustana dodged the bullet when Taylor Smith's line drive to short was speared in mid-flight. Augustana added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning and then held the Scots scoreless in the seventh.
The Scots rallied with three runs in the sixth inning of the nightcap to tied the game at 5-5 and then sent the game into extra innings after neither team could scratch out a run. Jessie Alvis drove in two runs in the game, her second RBI in the crucial sixth that pulled the Scots within one. With two outs, Smith reached on an error, allowing Barnes to race home with the tying run. The Scots threatened briefly inthe eighth with runners in scoring position, but had a runner gunned down at the plate. Augustana delivered the winning blow in the 10th when a base hit and wild pitch set up the game winner, a run-scoring single to left.
