Box Score 2 Monmouth improved to 6-2 after errupting for 27 runs in two games Thursday at the NTC Games in Clermont, Fla.
The Scots broke open a close game against Westfield State with two runs in the fifth on their way to a 6-3 win. Emily Watkins went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and scored a pair of runs for Monmouth. After Westfield knotted the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Sommer Foster led off the fifth with a triple. Courtney Bennett's sac fly regained Monmouth's lead and a base hit from Emily Woods drove home Watkins with an insurance run. Caitlin Lingle's base hit in the sixth pushed Bennett across the plate for the winning margin.
Bennett picked up her first win of the season in relief and Skyler Johnson came on to close out the game, earning her first save of the season.
Monmouth got on top of Franciscan early in the nightcap of a 21-3 win. Bennett supplied the arm and the power, ripping a solo homer in the first and driving in four runs in the game while earning her second win of the day in the circle. The Scots errupted for 12 second inning runs highlighted by Charlotte Park's three-run homer.
The Scots wrap up their Florida trip with a 9 a.m. game on Friday.
